INVESTING IN OUR EMPLOYEES

The travel industry was severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. To protect its guests, employees and partners, Viking was the first cruise company to temporarily suspend operations in March 2020. Over a year later, in May 2021, Viking successfully restarted operations. Viking took care of its employees during this time and implemented new initiatives.

How did Viking support its crew?

One of Viking’s values is to care for each other like a family, and during this unprecedented time, we did. To ensure the majority of our crew members had a stable income, Viking applied for furlough assistance and provided monthly financial support to all employees who were not covered under that scheme. Additionally, crew members were connected to online counseling services and treated to private tours on their days off. To protect the health of Viking crew and guests, the company launched the Viking Health & Safety Program. Our program is one of the most well-researched and comprehensive COVID-19 prevention and mitigation plans in the travel industry. Additionally, as professional development is a priority to Viking, we invested in training our nautical crew on safety topics. We provided webinars and online workshops to train hotel crew to become certified COVID protocol specialists.
